Old Mac-Yogi had farm. E-i-e-i-om.
The kids took turns saying what animals were on the farm, and we acted them out in yoga poses.

Chicken Feed
I tossed out “chicken feed” (a bag of pompoms) around the room and had the kids collect the pompoms with their toes and place them into bowls. Normally, this game is called “toe-ga.”

Savasana
This was a guided savasana. We pretended we were at the farm. The sun was shining, and we could feel its warmth. The horses were neighing and running. The cows are mooing and chewing grass. The goats were jumping and eating everything. We looked at the rows and rows of food growing and thought about how healthy this food was for us. We thought about how great it was to see life growing around the farm and tried to hold on to that feeling.

Peace begins with me
Hold both hands overhead. On the word “peace,” touch the thumbs and pinky fingers together. On the word “begins,” touch the thumbs and ring fingers. On the word “with,” touch the thumbs and middle fingers. On the word “me,” touch the thumbs and pointers. Repeat this four times, the first time loudly and hands overhead. The second time, bring the hands down a little and speak a little softer. The third time, bring hands lower and whisper. The last time, bring hands to knees and speak words silently to self.

Are you Ready for Yoga?
Are you ready for yoga?
If you’re ready, then stomp your feet
Stomp your feet and make some noise.
Let’s stomp our feet and make some noise
And do it really fast
Then stop. Stretch your feet up, up, up
And down.
Repeat with arms then both.

Halloween sun salutations
Hello, bats. Flap, flap, flap
Hello, worms. Squirm, squirm, squirm.
Place your hands on the floor. 1,2
And step back. 3,4
Lower your belly to the leaves on the floor.
Aoooo. howl at the moon so pale
Lift up to shake your werewolf tail
Bend your knees. Jump your feet up please.
Take a deep breath in
And feel the magic deep within.

Interim Mayor of Severance “People in Your Neighborhood” storytime

We are still meeting on zoom instead of in person, and so we decided to implement a new once a month event called the People in Your Neighborhood. We have asked interested community members to read a story and answer questions about their job. Afterward, we do a craft for which the library provides supplies. We place all the supplies for the craft in paper bags, and patrons can call ahead for the bag to be placed outside for curbside pickup, or they can stop into the library. Our guest was the temporary mayor of the Town of Severance

We read Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen.

We're_Going_on_a_Bear_Hunt

The Town of Severance recently build its very first high school. Its mascot is the Silver Knights. In honor of that, we made a knight mask like this post from It Happens in a Blink.

This will be our last People in Your Neighborhood storytime. People just aren’t interested in online storytimes as much, and our library has decided to not return to in person programming for ages that cannot yet receive the Covid-19 vaccine. We will look into inviting more guests from the community when things (eventually) can reopen.
